Howdy,

Here's a picture of a boy and his Spencer Infantry Rifle.

During the arms demo, starting with empty guns, the Enfield 2 shots, the Sharps 4 shots, and the Spencer 10 shots.  That was starting with an empty gun and loading the Spencer from a cabine cartridge box.  With a Blakeslee, it would have been 14 or better!

Also, here are some pictures of the California Hundred booth.

I am not REALLY fondling my Spencer in the first picture!

And, yes, that is a Spencer carbine (Taylor's 56-50) I have slung at my side, rather than the "issue" 1863 Sharps carbine our re-enactment unit uses.  The California Hundred (Co. A, 2nd Mass Vol. Cavalry) had Sharps until April of 1864 when we got Spencers.

I got the 56-50 carbine back from Judge Hemp SSS #45.  He wants the 44-40 Spencer I am getting to do the article on, so I am trading it to him for the 56-50 Carbine I sold him to get my 56-50 Infantry rifle.  Now I have two 56-50 Spencers: one rifle and one carbine  ;D<ggggggg> Still have to pay for the 44-40, though :P

Hey Mr. Lawman that looks like a real nice living history. Looks like there was lots of spectators too. All those blue uniforms gives me a hankerin' to use my new Spencer!  HaHa, Just kiddin'. Seriously that looks like it was a lot of fun.

Howdy pard,

They were litterally thousands of spectators.  There was a Zouave outfit, Artillery outfit, and Buffalo soldier outfit there too.  There were also all manner of other 19th century re-enactors and suttlers.  We did a live fire demonstration, aand Zouave did bayonet drills. n Great time.

What are those buldings in the bottom picture? Old army barracks? Oh, I think you are fondling that Spencer rifle too but, what's wrong with that? It's a beauty.

Whoever said that Civil War soldiers were malnourished?!  ;D ;)

Tuolumne Lawman

True,

I could never be totally "correct"  I weigh 100 lbs too much, especially for a cavalry trooper!
