If it is the 6 shot R&D .32 caliber cylinder, you can put the hammer on an empty chamber, and has a 4" barrel, I would say so.  It says .32 caliber, not 32-20 or 32 H&R.

If smaller frame is criteia, then the newer smaller 32 HR baby Vaqueros and small frame (3/4 size colt clones should be illegal.  The ratio of size between an 1840 and an 1851 Navy are about the same as the ratio of the baby Vaqueros to Full size.

I guess that an 1849 with an R&D cylinder shooting BP 32 S&W rounds would represent an unfair advantage (ugh?).  And remember, nobody was ever killed or shot with the .32 S&W in the old west (tongue in cheek), especially since pocket pistols outnumbered full size 3 to one in the old west.

My thoughts exactly.  But apparently, SASS feels differently. ::)

They'll approve the Henry Big Boy and USFA Omni - two guns which never existed prior to 1899 - but won't allow the use of the most common Colt - the Pocket model - for Match use.  Go figure.

This type of logic was prominent in my decision to join NCOWS rather than SASS (back when SASS only had 5,000 or so members).

Did you get an offical ruling from SASS?  I know other folks have been saying they are using them.  Opinions on the wire are just opinions.

That's the catch, they were approved as sidematch pocket pistols, so you can't use them as main match guns...
