Well, you got one yes, so I'll give you a no.  The 49 is considered a pocket pistol and even with the conversion cylinder it is still used in pocket pistol side matches.  Also, they are extremely light duty weapons.  If you shoot much, they won't last long.

Pettifogger -

I'm thinkin' that the rules say no full sise SAA may be used as a pocket pistol, but there's no proscription (if you can't win on good sense, use big words) on small frame SAs as main match guns.  I'll have to look again to sure...

As far as the SASS handbook it looks like it is OK.

Handbook
REVOLVER REQUIREMENTS
Original single action revolvers manufactured prior to 1899, their
approved replicas, and the SASS approved modern category
revolvers are the only revolvers approved for use in SASS main
match competition. The rules relative to SASS approved revolvers
depend upon the competition category in which one participates.
Examples of SASS approved revolvers for each category are listed
elsewhere in this Handbook. Sights are a major factor for determining
in which category a revolver may be used. Certain shooting categories
require a specific type of revolver and ammunition be used.
Please see the shooting categories for further information.

You have to read all the rules --

A pocket pistol is a small frame, fixed sight, pre-1900 design
revolver having a barrel length of four inches or less. Pocket
pistols must be .31 caliber or larger. Model "P" Colts and
clones and revolvers with swing out cylinders are specifically
not allowed regardless of caliber, frame size, or barrel length.
Pocket pistols may not be used as or converted to main match
revolvers.

The following additional firearms have been approved for use:
• Small frame Model P revolvers such as the Cimarron Firearms
Lightning, Uberti Stallion, and Ruger Single Six .32 H & R
Magnum.

The reason they specifically mention ".31" is to include the Colt 49 and Remington .31 C&Bs as there are no .31 cartridge guns.  The rule then prohibits using or converting a legal pocket pistol into a main match revolver.  The only small frame main match pistols allowed are the Model P juniors and the Ruger .32.

Pettifogger - I stand corrected.  Yoe are right and I was wrong.  I hate it when that happens.  You know it's the first mistake I've ever made.  I thought I made a mistake once but it turned out I was wrong about that.  Seth, sorry aboud misleading you, pard.

Howdy Pards.

Five round cylinders mean that you can only load four. Every stage will requier a reload.

That is all I think I know.
