Learned this the other day myself.........."Heeled bullets" are made so the base of the bullet is recessed to allow a flush fit of the outside diameters of the case and bullet......  Most cases are proud or larger to the bullet.....  ;)

Discussion came up over 41 colt if I remember correctly that these bullets are "heeled" too...  oh! 22 rimfire too

The research and metal detecting is going well- found these over the last two weeks.

Is the pistol a 36 or a 44?  My question- do you think it was from the battle, and if so, Cavalry or Indians?

It's a .44 and the balls look to be definitely Indian. V=Got the serial number identified today and may can get a production date but that's about it.
