Fellers I never tried to get any color to come outta my BP, but being of the art teacher to a bunch of wild eyed teen agers I would suggest crushin up some artist pastels they are basically pure pigment and are a heck ova lot brighter than sidewalk chalk. The color is a lot more concentrated and it would let you get more color with less powder. Dangit Ive gotta go try it now!  Ill let yall know how it turns out!
take care an watch yer hair!
I never surrendered, but they took my horse an made him surrender.

Methinks that I may have unleashed a monster here.

Art pastels
Sidewalk Chalk
Concrete pigment
Glitter from automotive sprayers]
and....... powdered carpenters chalk line chalk (added so's not to upset the Nozzlerag)

hmmm..

I am reading a lot of 'shotshell rounds' being tried like this.

Any luck with pistol or rifle rounds?

Let me set the stage a little.
My wife thinks I could live with the hogs except the hogs couldn't stand the mess and would move out.
That said: Reloading is messy. Reloadfing Holy Black is so messy that it is only set off by the cool factor. Reloading Holy Black with red chalk is maybe even beyond me. I looked at my reloading area and everyting is covered with red dust. My hulls look like they have been rolled in red mud.  My Lee Load All is salvagable but barely.
I'm afraid, that even for me, the colored smoke is too much of a mess to deal with. Maybe glitter but not chalk.

Oh, but glitter is not good either, my wife does crafts with glitter and it shows up in the STRANGES places. ::)

Shotshells may be one thing, but experimenting with chalk, etc in rifled barrels brings to mind one of the problems with outside lubed ammunition. If you get dirt or grit embedded into it then it is not good when you shoot that down a barrel. Strikes me that chalk, ground up chemicals, glitter, etc. may not be too good either. At least not as a habitual thing.

Seems they answer to all this may lie in the East---Far East that is. Anybody know Chinese?
Seriously, there are fireworks factories in this country, certainly they would know more than we do about fireworks.. and thats what we're talking about here.  Could be worth an inquiry or two.

Awrot, boys.  Here's the deal.

Heard ah disappointment with these experiments.  The way I see it, maybe there weren't 'nuff  'foreign matter' in the shot shells.  So whut I done did is leave the shot the hell out.  The way it is 'round these parts is shotgun targets are knockdowns 'n pickin' up misses is encouraged.  Whut have I got ta lose?

Whut I did taday wuz load two.  Used between 30 'n 40 grains of 2f under a nitro wad.  On top of that, I stuffed the hull with all the feathers I could jam in usin' a dowel to keep packin' 'em down.  An over 'shot' wad, crimp.

Most stages are four target thingys.  Reckon I'll put the 'Feather Lights' three 'n four in the slide.  Figgerin' ta flatten the first two.  Reload, yell 'PIDGEONS!' 'n let the feathers go from the hip - both barrels.  Then load real shells 'n blast the last two.

Y'all that shoot with me, keep mum.  Hope we get us one them real nervous ROs.........

BTW, OT.  That was about a third of that bag.   Heheheheheheheheheheheeeeeee

Arcey were those feathers about the right size or did they need to be a different size?
