When I was a little kid, my Dad took all of us to Florida the beach on vacation. One night, I was standing on the balcony of the hotel watching the waves and the sunset.  I searched for a while for something intelligent to say to my Dad who was sitting there reading.  The best I could come up with was: "Sure is a lot of water out there, ain't it Dad?"

To which he replied: "Yup, and that's only the top."

I heard that from an OLD Navy chief when I was a young second lieutenant in the Army.  It was during a storm about 400 miles east of Okinawa and I went out on a weather deck to get away from the rest of the guys who were sicker than you could imagine.  He found me out there and asked if I was okay and we talked for a half hour until it got too cold.
