Drove 100miles and back to pick up some guns that a recently widowed friend found in an old chest of her husband's. It is a shame, the guns were all rusted and now junk. One was a Martini Cadet which was originally in excellent condition before the rust got to it. I told her I got $100  for the lot, but in fact they will all be junked. I didn't have the heart to tell her they were not worth anything, even though she realises they were pretty rough. It was an expensive exercise, $80 in diesel and the $100, but you gotta do these things occasionally.

A friend is throwing a 60th party for me (actually I'm paying for it, he's hosting it) tonight and I'm going to try and get my reloading set up working again, it's been all sitting in shipping crates since the wife took ill almost 2 years ago. I've been buying factory ammo, but my rifles are all down at the moment and I am going to dust off a nib Marlin 1894 for next week's shoot and I can't get 44mag or 44Special ammo. I can get Winchester cowboy 44Special ammo ($115 per 100) but it is some 200 miles away! Time to dust off the press.

Going interstate next week for the Winter Muster in South Australia.
All my cowboy gun's calibres start with a 4! It's gotta be big bore and whomp some!

Thanks dan, the party went well, we all had a quiet time, BBQ on the front lawn, most of the sifties sat inside and yakked and a grooup of us sat on the porch rugged up and yakked into the wee hours over a few jars.

This weekend, I'm cleaning up, packing for the big trip next week to the shoot and serviceing the truck today.

I promised Kid Savage some 38 brass to help him on his trip to EOT and spent a big portion of yesterday pulling stuff apart looking for them. I never did find them, but scraped up 350 nickel ones, so that should get him out of trouble. The good thing is, I found my Rockchucker! It was at the back of a shelf right down low. I must have stuffed it there when I moved back with the  late wife. All of my stuff just got shoved in there as she was sick and I didn't have time (or the inclination) to set it all up. I'm sure sick of buying factory stuff after nearly 40years of reloading everything, but I will be back in business shortly after getting back from Adelaide.

Well, the shoot in South Australia was awesome!!! Got back last night, it was a big drive, I clocked up some 1800miles all up (the diesel was an average of $7 a yankee gallon the last week or so,  :( ).

Lobo and Miss Fire, their son Coyote and his beautiful lady Violet Rose and a few others put on a shoot that wil get me back every year. I've always heard that Adelaide was hot and dry, but this year it was wet and blowing up a gale.

Thanks for the effort folks!

PS, I won a big tin of Trail Boss, I'll use this getting my transition to Classic Cowboy sorted and then I'll switch to the unholy black.

I'm off out west with work and will be back Friday afternoon. Next weekend will see a bity of local practice and a big clean up and a big effort to get my reloading gear back on line.
Mick.

Well the permits for the pistols came through today and the permity for the shotgun came through a couple days ago, I will pick them up this weekend if my mate is around (they are with the club armourer at the moment). I'm plumb out of 44/40 ammo, so I'd best be getting my press back into operation. I won a big tim of trail boss last weekend, I'll use that for practice working out the ergonomics, etc of the soingle handed shooting and hammered shotgun, when I get that ironed out, I'll be loading the black. The way O see it I'm 60 now so, I've got 10-15-20 years, maybe more of trying to wear these new guns out shooting classic and that sounds like a nobel endeavour. I never thought a lot about building a character, but the penny dropped for me on that one last weekend, so, I'm also working on that. Looking forward to it all. Mick.

Well, I can tell you what I did on the weekend. I shot my first match.   8)

I went out to the Cairns City Cowboys to watch. A pard grabbed me and before I knew it, I was standing at the line with the RO asking "shooter ready?" I had a great time. Great group of people. I'm hooked.  ;D

Got a Dutch friend coming this weekend, I'll be showing her around Sydney and the Blue Mountains. She's not a shooter unfortunately, so I'm having a touristy weekend.
