Mean Matt McCord

What concoctions do y'all use to soak your shot up brass in during a match?  Thanks.

I shower with Ivory.  Save the scraps when they get too small to use.  Stick 'em in sumthin' that won't break if I drop it.  Fill it with hot water before I leave for the shoot in the mornin'.

BTW, Matt.  Congrats ta yer daughter.  Fer some reason, that thread never would take my reply.......

Matt, just plain water will do, but adding something makes it better. Some use Simple Green or Dawn Dish soap or like Arcey soap scraps added to the water in a jug and your brass put in there right after shooting will get you many reloads from the brass.
Now me, I found some stuff called Kaboom, actually I was told about it, comes from the grocery store and I add some to the water in my jug and by the time I get home and rinse the brass a few times with clear water, I don't even need to tumble. I said brass, because it doesn't do much of anything on nickle plated.

At the match, water with dish soap (dawn).  When I get home, rinse and tumble in DD Ceramic Porcelain media.  Three hours later, factory new lookin' brass.  I like clean brass to load and shoot.

Listen!  Do you hear that?  The roar of Cannons and the screams of the dying.  Ahh!  Music to my ears.

I don't use anything at the match.  When I get home I soak 'em in Dawn or Simple Green and water, for about an hour.  Then rinse and throw them in the polisher.

I have two methods....
1- If I have prepared, I take an empty plastic cat litter jug (1gallon). I have a leather 'slot' on my gun cart with a flap so to hide this ugly white monster. I just dump the brass into it and put the lid back on. The container already has some Dishwasher soap (cascade) and water in there. I have found that Dishwasher soap works better (for me) than Dawn, etc, at getting the real stubborn stuff off. I take the container out and shake it before I leave the match and then let the car do the 'dishwasher thing' on the way home. At home, dump it all out and rinse, then tumble.

2- Lazy method. Dump brass into old rusted metal coffee tin. Tumble when  i get home (or days afterwards)

Howdy,  I picked up some of the kaboom tonight at the store,  shot a little on some brass that needed tumbling,  shined it up quite a bit with nothing but the spray,  I'm anxious to try it on some fresh shot brass.
We done it for Dixie,  nothing else

If you got any of that KaBoom left over after sprayin all ya brass..... it works wonders on the 'stainless' sinks or toilet bowls.

Just so happened........

Couple weeks ago I wasn't totally prepared.  Not wantin' ta wake up e'erbody in the house, I grabbed Pleazin' LePlump's Palmolive dish washin' stuff 'n used that.  The brass has been in there since.

This mornin', I mixed that brass with the stuff I shot yestiddy 'n dumped in the Ivory scrap stuff.  It's been in the tumbler fer 'bout ah hour now.  The stiff dumped in the Palmolive has sum gummy stuff on it.  Wipes off easy but I don't wanna hafta wipe nuttin' off when I take it out the tumbler........

Normally I use a jug with water an Dawn like most last couple of times I didn't have any Dawn.  Tried Bam with water and the brass came out cleaner.  Got some Kaboom in the closet gonna try that next, hope it works as good as I've heard.  Somehow saying that I clean my BP shells with Kaboom just sorta sounds right!  ;D

I cleanup at home. First using water with a few drops of dish-soap....shake/soak/rinse/drain. Repeat rinse/drain with clean water. Then I soak in 50/50 white vinegar / water for about 30 minutes, drain and rinse in clean water. Air dry. Tumble before reloading. I save the vinegar solution for re-use. I also wash/dry and re-use corncob tumbling media....Been using the same batch for 3 yrs and still going.

My brass has turned a mellow shade and won't give me away to my adversaries by ginting in strong sunlight  :D

WOW!!! I thought I was the only one that used a kitty litter jug here on planet earth. I have used one for years. To make mine period correct, I took a magic marker and drew pictures of all the cattle brands I could find all over it, like it was branded or something. I just put my jug, along with my period correct canister of handi wipes and my period correct bottled water and all in my really period correct plastic waste basket I attached to the rear of my gun cart. On the basket I drawn a picture of a gunslinger from Doodyville and attached two SASS stickers to boot. No one ever got the drizzles about it, so it must not be too flagrant.
BTW, I have noticed some pards that use a wide mouthed big sized peanut butter jar too. Just draw on a holster and sixgun on Peter Pan and there you have it.
I am however going to build a whole new guncart that will have room for everything and even a loading stand built in for when I shoot C&B. I have it all drawn out and if I can ever stay off the computer long enough, I should have it built in about 5 years. :)

My cart is a minimal design, originally made to fit in the back seat of the car, so I hung a swinging wooden dowel  "cage" on the back that holds two 1lb Folgers plastic coffee cans side by side.  It hangs on a pivot so the cans don't leak when the cart is tipped back.

They are filled with water with about 3 drops of dawn dish soap and a splash of vinegar.  A day's worth of brass, including 12 ga magtechs, fits in the two cans.  Sometimes the brass gets pickled for a week or more, then gets rinsed in hot water, shook out, placed in an aluminum roasting pan (them throw away turkey pans) dried in the oven at 200 degrees for 20 minutes then tumbled for anywhere from an hour to all day (if I forget the tumbler is running in the attic).  I most often just tumble and hour or so, and the brass has a nice dark slippery patina that is pleasing to the eye and yet is plenty clean enough for reloading.

The thirty some odd oz. (1 liter) mouthwash bottles work great.  'Bout two 'n a half inches narrow 'n they fit between the stocks of the long guns in the cart - my cart ennyway.  The 'child proof' caps aren't a bad thing.  Don't know how many times I've stood at the cart 'n threw the things at the unloadin' table.  Those caps ain't comin' off.  The mouth of the bottles ain't all that small.  Ain't much ta dump the spent stuff in 'em.

My stuff is .357 Magnum 'n I don't stick shotgun stuff in 'em so one does me fine.  Bigger bore stuff use two, leave one in the truck.  Swap 'em out durin' a break in the shootin'.  One might be 'nuff anyhow.......

Doggone right. No need to lug water around all day. Those empties won't corrode away to nothing that fast. I keep my empties in an empty lead shot bag during the match. End of the day is plenty of time to dump them in a jug of water back at the car. All that's needed is water and a squirt of dish soap. If no dish soap is handy, just plain water. Period. The vibration of the car on the drive home keeps everything stirred up. Then rinse with plenty of clean water until the rinse water runs clear. Lay them out to dry, then tumble after the're dry. No need for secret formulas or rocket science.
That's bad business! How long do you think I'd stay in operation if it cost me money every time I pulled a job? If he'd pay me that much to stop robbing him, I'd stop robbing him.

Ya probably inherited every penny ya got!
