I bought an Uberti 1872 open top a number of months back and it has the narrow firing pin. The one that came with it was a tad short and caused the odd misfire. I ordered two hardened firing pins from VTI and changed the original. The replacement was a bit longer and works fine. It's my understanding that the early version of the Uberti had a more conical version of a firing pin and was a little more reliable. Is there anyone out there that's making these as an after market item??

Just to let y'all know I ordered a firing pin for my 1872 open top Uberti from The Smith Shop and it dropped right in. Much stronger firing pin. I've gone through about 400 rounds now without a misfire. Fast service too and it had to come to Canada.
