If I include a lube wad beneath the bullet, does it matter if I use bullets lubed for smokeless.

I made up some .38 rounds not to many weeks ago, They shot fine and had a nice lube star at the muzzel. They were a pain in the butt to load and I will try some snakebites this week instead of the lube cookies.  I am sure others have done it and it will be interesting to read what they report.

If you're using the real powder, the crayon type lubes could possibly give you a lot of build up/fouling because they're petroleum based. If you're using APP, no problem.
Some of the more experienced( read Soot Lords) can explain it better than I( I'm just a groupie)..................Buck 8) ::) :o

The moly lube bullets work fine with APP or 777 ..But they make a sticky mess with Pyrodex and Real Black ... these are the only powders i`ve tested them with ... so there may be more .

Worked fine in my 38's for years....Also used a "std" bullet (re-lubed with my own mix) with a home-made "wonder-wad" in my 44WCF rifles. Recommend swabbing rifle bore with one wet patch between stages....pistols don't foul out so easy. Good way to start out. I use big-lube in all my 44s now. home-made lube wads in my .38s if/when they get used.

Since ya don't say, this thread cud apply to rifles too.

I stumbled onto a simple solution that really works when I'm shootn' black powder in my old K98 Mauser chambered for 8mm06.  I got me some of 'em gel caps from the health food store and put Pearl lube in 'em.  Then, when the powder's in I pop in a Pearl Lube filled gell cap and seat the boolit.  I've got a Lyman mold that drops gas check 9mm boolits but the lube groves don't amount to scat.  This way I can shoot a hundred rounds and hold great accuracy.  It's fun to make that ol K98 belch smoke.  Does Bambi rite quick too.

So, if ya don't have a Big Lube™ boolit available in some particular caliber, ya kin get by with gel caps filled with Pearl Lube.  It's a cheep and simple solution that works.

I have used a lot of those Remington swaged bullets with that complete coating of that "black crap" lube over a grease cookie, that works fine in both revolvers and rifles. I have also loaded the Meister and the Laser Cast with the crayon lube over grease cookies. These also shot fine for at least a box of fifty in my revolvers.

Now I am told that the crayon lubes make up something awful in the way of fouling with real black powder. It may, the trouble is that I can't see it. The ordinary BP fouling must hide it and by the time that I have it cleaned off, the alleged awful fouling is gone too. I have no doubt that this awful fouling exists, GUNWRITERS mention it and they are smart enough to get paid for doing what I do for free. I just think it's overblown as a real problem. I shoot my guns, they get dirty. I clean them. Problem solved.

Arcey, there's a .44 caliber brass framed '51 sittin' in my safe that's waitin' for me to start foolin' with it. Got a can of FFg Elephant as well.........Buck 8) ;)

With the substitutes like APP and 777 the hard smokeless lube works well enough.  If you're going to use Black Powder or Pyrodex, stick a lube cookie, pill, or wonder wad under the bullet with a card wad between  the cookie and both the bullet & the powder.
Listen!  Do you hear that?  The roar of Cannons and the screams of the dying.  Ahh!  Music to my ears.

I have been using a sprinkling of grits between powder, lube cookie and BP lubed bullet. Will be changing over to smokeless lube on the bullet, but will be keeping the lube cookie.
