Sundown Storm

I saw one of these in the Pawn shop today, a Sauer and Sohns single Action Revolver in .44 (mag?). I'd never seen one before, and I am writing to ask if anyone has any opinions good or bad about them.
I looked it over and it looks good, and has no obvious problems. There wasn't a date on it, and I can't find anything about it on the Sauer website.
I'll get a photo and upload it if necessary.

Thank you in advance.

  J. P Sauer & Son ... Built in West Germany.
They were inexpensive single actions imported by Hawes in 1950s through the 1960s and still could be found in 1970's.
Western Costume & Studio rental used to use a lot of them, as  "Extra's " guns just to fill holsters.
Offen had plastic stag look grips or some hardwood stained grips.
Calibers were 38 44 mag. 45 and 22 LR.

I take it by that the quality leaves something to be desired?

That's an accurate assessment for both 'quality' and 'desireability'...

I don't know that I would pass it up if the price was right.  They were a decent gun for the money.  If it locks up good and cycles good it could be worth getting.

They were asking 219$ for them, so, I think I'll pass.  :)
unless, of course, someone can say honestly that it's a helluva deal.

I have owned 13 Hawes pistols made by Sauer &Sohn, all have been good shooters, all have also been 38/357.
They are slightly larger framed than a Colt, about the size of a Ruger and like Ruger, built hell for tough!

I have had NO PROBLEMS with any of these guns. My wife, sons and I have used them as main match pistols for years. Parts (if you need them) are readily available and inexpensive.

All 13 that we have owned shoot POA and function flawlessly.

If you intend to shoot BP or a sub, DO NOT buy these guns, the tolerences are too tight.

Otherwise they are a great buy.

Well, then maybe I will get it, it'll just be a knock-around gun, in any case.
Small problem, though, I just talked to the pawn broker, and the ejector button has come off, is there an easy way to replace it?

Yep, I brazed one back one for a friend, low heat. Filed smooth to fit and buffed, no big deal.

Get him to knock off $20-25 and you got a deal.
I think you can get a new Ejector rod from VTI cheap enough.

Well, I went back in, and managed to talk the pawnbroker down to only $80, so, I went ahead and purchased the .44.
now all I have to do is get the ejector rod for it.
it's missing the whole ejector rod, not just the button.

I should've used the edit feature to add this, but, anyway:
I looked up the VTI website, and they didn't have any parts for this brand of revolvers.
I haven't purchased any ammo for the revolver yet, nor have I fired it (obviated by the fact that I haven't purchased any ammo). I wonder, if I'm unable to find an ejector rod for it, if I will be able to manage just pulling the hot brass out by hand (wow, I sound so dumb right there).
Otherwise, is it possible to buy an ejector rod and simply work to fit? the housing for the rod is there, just the rod itself and the button is missing, even the spring is intact.

Thank you Tensleep, They're sold out for now, I'll check back with 'em in a bit. I appreciate the link.
I've been running around the net trying to find JP Sauer parts, instead of Hawes parts. :-[

There was two cowboys downunder that owned them, both in 357 one had a 5.5in barrel in blue and the other one was only 2in and in stainless. The sad part about the short barelled one is that the state govenment bought it off him in the big gun buy back to save us from gun crime >:( >:( >:( They worked very well for S/A shooting.
