Why is it that when I reassemble a Rooger Old Model the loading gate will only open part way? What am I doing wrong? I had three of em in this condition at one time. I then disassembled one, reassembled it and it works fine. I    have torn the other two down and reassembled them numerous times with the same problem reappearing each time.  Now I am certainly no expert, on Rugers or any other subject known to Mankind, but I  have owned a number of Blackhawks and vaquero's over the last 40 Years or so, have disassembled/assembled all of them, some several times and have never had a serious problem until now. Cripes, these things are simple. How could I be screwing it up? All advice welcomed. Thanks.

There is a "V" spring that controls the loading gate, if it isn't perfectly lined up where it's supposed to be it will cause the problem you're descibing, hope this helps

Thanks for the input Pards. Ruger got me straight. I had them torn down and decided to install new Gate Detent Springs[for no good reason]. Found out from Ruger that these springs are hand fir to each gun. There has to be clearance between the hump where the spring bends back on itself and the grip frame. In addition the end that fits against the loading gate may have to be filed down. I filed both areas on both springs and they  work perfectly. Dumb idea replacing what ain't broke anyway.
