I am new into mounted shooting and have very small hands(female). I am looking into a rugar sheriffis model with 3 1/2" barrel, bisley hammer(so I can reach it) , and aluminium backstrap with blackhawk grips(a little less weight and thinner so my hand can reach around to hold the gun).  This configuration allows me to reach the hammer and still hold the gun while shooting.  I understand this config. is used by cmsa shooters in several states and want to be sure it meets the rules before I spend $$$$ money. Anyone shooting this gun and if so, any problems.  Thanks for any input, I have to decide soon.  (So far its the only pistol I can shoot single handed)

Howdy,

This gun, as modified, would not be legal for SASS ground shooting events.  I am not experienced enough in the mounted groups' rules to say anything further.

You could cut the barrel on a Ruger Bisley and use the thin grips, like Eagle Gunfighters and get close and be legal.

Welcome to CAS City, hope this helps..

Try posting this question over at SASS's mounted shooter site too. Good luck.

This is a fine alteration, AND legal in SASS mounted shooting matches. (as well as CMSA)
