June 3rd and 4th is the Rock Creek Trail Days at Rock Creek Station State Historical Park near Fairbury Newbrassky.  This is a restored road ranch on the Overland Trail and is the same Rock Creek Station where some stable hand named James Hickkok killed one Dave McCandless.

There will be a lot of historical demonstrations and I will be there cooking for a group of Living History folks.  If anyone in the area or even out of the area is interested, send me a PM and I'll give you more details and put yer name in fer meals.

This is a great event, I just wish it wasn't on the same date as the FDMR regional.... :(

T'was a lot of fun, no one died of food poisoning. ;D

I'd like to report that River City John looked in fair health when he left despite being shot and hacked to death several times with a grubbin' hoe. ::)  Fallin' dead can be a bit hard on older folks but I am sure his shoulder will heal. :o

I think he slept well despite a cosie out prowlin', cookin' and tendin' fire at all hours of the night. ::)

John, after you left one of the locals told about the corn that was beat into the ground by the hail that touched us a bit, drove by on the way, yep it got hit hard. :o

I guess at 2 or so in the mornin' I think a tent has a drivers side. ;D  I knew when the temp dropped there was hail near by, didn't want to see you beat up any more.

I also forgot to tell you there are at least 2 pair of mountan lions live on the area.  But with all the deer and turkeys you don't really have to worry, 'specially with the fire I keep burnin'. ::)

Was fun and never think you were in the way. ;)

The ruts of the Overland Trail show up well just past the buildings on the west ranch and just to the lower left of the visiters center in this photo.  The visitors center is the circle straight south of the county road that leads into the park.  The larger circle to the west is the modern camp grounds with the horse corrals.  The circle to the east is the day picnic ground and parking.  John and I camped just to the west of where the trail crosses the crek and to the north of the trail.
