Howdy folks, new to the site and new to Cas.

I just picked up an "old" Ruger Vaquero .45 LC a couple weeks ago at my local gunshop. It was lightly used, but at $150.00 I couldn't resist. I've never been one to leave well enough alone, and this little six shooter is no exception. The blueing wasn't perfect, so I started to refinsih it.

My question is does anyone know if there are any possible problems with filing off the "please read instruction manual etc.. " and maker stamp on the barrel. I have some experience at doing this to my black powder pistols, but it's a lot easier with a octagonal barrel, and I am under the impression the black powder barrels are under a bit less stress than a .45 long colt. The stamping also appears to be fairly deep on the barrel....

is this just a bad idea? ???

Any advice would be much appreciated

I too have, defarbed many a gun. Round is actually easier having worked Springfields ,Bess's & Sharps for film work.
I think the Ruger is more than ample in barrel mass under normal SASS loads for you to proceed.
I've read of others doing the Lawyer Yarn removal to Rugers, have not heard of anyone sorry they did.
when planets align...do the deal !

Thanks for the advice Major, I'm gonna go ahead an give it a shot.
I'll post some pics when it's finished.....

The folks at the gun shop don't take too kindly to that sorta thing, but it was a steal fer sure. The also got a Vaquero Bisley for $250.00 that looks like it's never been fired..... thought about pick'n that one up too.........  ::)

Wow...your gun shop must be in a VERY different part of California than mine!

I live in the South Bay, and there ain't a whole lotta folks here that are into single action revolvers. Lucky for me I guess..... but that Bisley was gone when I went back, so I'm pick'n up a Stoeger coach gun instead for the same price....Gonna be movin' soon to a little more "cowboy friendly" part of the state soon though, so I gotta stock up!
