Has anyone found a replacement for the wretched rear sight that doesn't cost an arm & a leg like the Smith Ent. rear sight? I have an early Armisport and I opened up the notch which makes it great for quick acquisition but lousy for pinpoint accuracy. Someone said the new Armisport guns have a better "groove". Can anyone here with a new one speak up to testify if that is true or not? If so, I'll simply buy a new ladder assembly.

I could not find a replacement sight for my Taylors Spencer that was period so I had my gunsmith file a wide "V" in the factory sight.  It is very quick and surprisingly accurate.  If anyone locates a suitable replacement and it looks period I would be interested.
I ain't often right but I've never been wrong.

If you go back to page three & five of this forum, look for the posts entitled, (on page 3) (2)Spencer Sight Information and Suggestions, and (on page 5) Replacing Rear Sight started by Wagon Wheel.  There may be some useful info for you, although some may be repeated between the two posts.

Well, yesterday I received the supposed "new & improved" Armisport rear sight. Well, it's the same as what first came with the gun. The groove is pathetic and can't be seen. Save your money. There was something on the NSSA board a while back about Lodgewood having some better rear sights. I think I'll call them.  :'(

Yesterday, I had 'smith buddy open up my new Armisport rear sight and he found a wonderful solution to our problem. He had some extremely thin discs for a Dremel Tool and simply opened up the notch. When I say thin here people I mean THIN!!! He broke two discs just putting them into the tool head. It deepened the notch to just fit the front sight in it & not have the front sight "swim" so to speak.  ;D

Fox Creek Kid,

Thanks for the information...just curious...all the Dremel discs have a part number.  Any idea what the number was for the ones you used on the sight?

Two Flints, I asked him today & he said the Dremel # is 409, non-fiberglass. He used a generic brand (Dedico?).

had gunsmith put a higher and wider front sight on and i took a dremel file bit to rear sight (slowly, slowly). i do use a merit optical when shooting (aging, aging).  good luck, geo.
