Well son in law wants me to shoot with him at an indoors shooting range .. i haven`t been to one in 30 years but i do remember they frown on the use of B/P and subs .. they can`t hack the smoke and the boom ... i`m not set up to load any smokeless rounds for my 45 conversion cylinder but ... i heard that Trailboss was smokeless ..and loads by volume like B/P subs ... is this true ??  I`m hopeing this stuff will do the trick so i can leave the 9mm pray and spray gun at home where it belongs .. i load my cartrages with a lee hand loader .. so will this stuff measure like B/P subs ? thanks for any imput ..

Smokeless, yes. By volume, no. It's a very bulky powder, 9 oz. fills a normal 1lb. canister. I'm using it in .45's, .44's, 38-40's, and .38 Specs.
You didn't list what weight bullets you're thinking on using for those .45Colts, but I'm using 5.8g with a 200g RNFP which is about the middle of the range for the 200's. IMR has data listed on their site for TrailBoss......Buck 8)

I might be slow, but I'm mostly accurate.....

Something else, it's different looking as well. Looks like tiny Cheerios or doughnuts............Buck 8) ::) ;)

Yes. I've had test rounds with some unbelieveable SD's and some pretty impressive paper target from bench prints.....Buck 8) ;)

5.5gr of Trail Boss  and 200gr rnfp bullets from RedRiver bullets is all I shoot as far as  cartridge conversion (Kirst) in my Pietta NMA revolvers.

Its a nice light load and has excellent accuracy.

A good solid roll crimp is a must for Trail Boss.

I'm working up a load of trail boss for my 44 rem CF cartridges. 4.0 was puny, 5.0 was a bit stiff and will test 4.5 and 4.75 Grn. SAT.
My ASP/Euroarms with Kirst Conversions will shoot the 5.0 grn. and with my 248 Grn Bullet it equates to a 45LC.
5.0 Grn shoots high at the indoor range of 15 yds. but then I think the Remmy's shoot high anyhoo.  Need more time on the line to be sure.

Howdy,

It's not that they (indoor ranges) can't "hack" the boom & smoke.  It has to do with the air filtration / circulation systems mandated by Uncle Sugar.  (EPA)  I doubt that an indoor range would be wooried by the boom, however!  ;)

Enjoy your shooting ... however whenever, and wherever you can.

Keep yer powder dry!  Happy Trails!!!

I don`t know .. back in the 70`s an indoor range told me i could shoot black powder ..no problem they had a good vent system .. its was so funny ..the first shoot i fired was so loud ..everyone in the range RAN OUT .. i thought i`d die laughing .  it was so loud it sounded like a bomb ..  ::)

It sounds like a FUN day shootin' !

Uh, the EPA (or whatever) regs in the 70s weren't near as picky as the new rules.

Don'cha LOVE it when you can clear a room (or firing point) from the thunder and smoke?!!!  :o  ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D

I can shoot BP at my indoor range only if I am the only one there and no one is waiting to shoot. Soooo One Sat Morning i cut loose with my Remmy's 40 Grns Elephant and a .451 ball. One of the salesmen came down to see what kind of MAGNUM I was shoioting. Hacking and coughing he went away shaking his head. They do BOOM purty good don't they. I love it. and they boom real well with the 44 Rem. CF cartridges too.
