Is anyone familiar with the Cimarron '73 Carbine?  I'm considering getting one, but would like some feedback before spending the bucks.  Any info or suggestions is appreciated.

I have the Cimarron Carbine Trapper with 16" bbl. and love it.  Very quick handling and accurate.

I've also got the 16" trapper '73 in 45LC and like it a lot.  Also have two charcoal blue 19" carbines in other calibers.  There's really not much to not like about the '73's.  The lever safety spring is sometimes kind of stiff, requiring some effort to squeeze the lever against the stock before the trigger can be pulled, but that is easily enough remedied, and the guns are easy to slick up and very reliable with the proper length of ammo.  While I do like the carbines a lot, the 20" octagon barreled short rifles, both straight stock and checkered pistol grip stock, seem to be a little more popular with the serious competitors.  The heavier barrel doesn't wave around quite as much as the lighter round carbine barrel.  And it is easier to change the front sight on the octagon barrel if you prefer a brass bead since the front sight is dovetailed into the barrel.  On the carbine, the front sight is part of the barrel band, so it takes a little more effort (machining) if you want a brass bead.

Good luck and enjoy.

I have a '73 Carbine. If I were to do it again, I would go for the 20" short rifle to get the extra round capacity in the magazine and the dovetailed front sight. The carbine has a good shape to the butt plate, but you could always switch to a carbine stock if you didn't like the rifle stock.

What are those rifles going for anyway?

General Burleson

Purchased a Cimarron 1873 short rifle with pistol grips and 20" octagon barrel about one month ago.  Used it on three cowboy shoots so far and love it.  Small problem with the safety still catching the lever in the shooting position - repaired with a file and blueing stick.  The last shell (#10) sometimes will not set up straight - I check it after loading to make sure the first round chambers properly.  This problem is getting better as I shoot the gun.  Paid $979 through a dealer in my club.
