The George T version brought back to light what a lot of Music Historians including myself think, this is the first true Rock and Roll song, not "Rock Around the Clock" from a few years later.  Nothing against Bill Halley, because he was good.  But I like his Western Swing when they were Bill Halley and the 4 Western Aces better. ;D

I didn't know that Bill Haley played western swing! :o

I might ought to try and find some of that stuff. I'm a huge western swing fan.

Try www.kzum.org  on friday night from 7:30 to 9:00 Central time, a local non-profit radio station of about 1000 watts, has the KZUM Hay Ride at that time and it plays on line, Honkey Tonk and Western Swing from the 30's-50's..  The DJ brings in his collection and he's fergot more about Western Swing than you and I are likely to ever know.

When my grandmother went to live in a rest home in Muskogee,  Ok.  we went to see her every few days,  the man next door kept trying to visit with us, so one day I just went next door and visited with him, he seemed awful lonely.

It turned out his name was Bill Wills,  Bob wills cousin and he had driven the bus for Bob forever,  he had a big boot box full of pictures of Bob, the Texas playboys and all the fdifferent places they had played.  It was really interesting to talk with him.  he had more stories than he could tell and never tell the same one  twice.
He said that a lot of the places they played back then didn't have air conditioning and Bob always told them to make sure everybody there was enjoying themselfs,  he would always tell you his job was to make sure everybody got a dance  and to "make them fat girls sweat"  (his words not mine)

but he said that was Bob's main thing,  make sure everybody had a good time. young old, fat, skinny
We done it for Dixie,  nothing else

Got a qestion: I've seen linen and cotton double breasted dusters, but they're always called either cattlemen's coats or range coats.

Whazza difference?

Some have corduroy collars and cuffs, but most are the same material as the rest of the coat.

People like me are the reason people like you have the right to bitch about people like me.

Delmonico

Most of those double breasted period ones were heavier and lined.  The double breasted helps keep out the wind.  A true duster is one layer and meant to keep the dust off your clothing.
