Does anybody have any pictures of saddle holsters? I've been thinking about trying to make one, so I can carry my 1860 army when I'm riding horse. If anybody has ever made one, I'd like to see pictures of that too. Thanks.

Major 2

I've made several , sadly my camera has bitten the dust.

Two styles I've made
one is the Dragoon style with Bearskin covers and brass cone endcaps. See Randy Steffins books &/or Packing Iron Pg. 12-17 Grimsley's pattern.

the other style is the Civillian pommel Bag or cantenas ...
Packing Iron pgs. 57-61 I patterned mine after bottom of pg 60  J. P. Mason circa 1860-70

when planets align...do the deal !

St. George

'Packing Iron' by Rattenbury and 'The Horse Soldier' - by Steffen both feature pommel holsters.

The massive Walker and the various Models of Dragoons - as well as some large-bore single-shot pistols were designed to be carried in this manner - but the M1860 Army was made to obviate it - allowing the soldier to step from his mount and still have his sidearm on his person.

hey bud, you never told me you were wanting one to ride on your horse with. i agree the army should be worn on your belt(in my slim jim holster...lol), but i think your walker would look great in a saddle holster

Hey, if it was good enough for Gus, it's good enough for me!
Besides, I'd prefer to carry a gun that works. ;)
