Ottawa Creek Bill

When I did the painting last year of the Apache that I donated to NCOWS, I posted the progress of the painting and most folks found that interesting so I am going to do the same with this one. As it is now, I've pretty much got the sky finished. If you look into the clouds you can see seven bufflalo coming at you in what looks like Cinemascope (for us old timers). When they are finished they will blend into the clouds and only be there if you look real hard. If you click "view image" with the right key of your mouse, it will enlarge the photo of the painting.

The top photo is the one I used to lay out this painting, but I turned it into an evening/dusk painting to be able to get the long shadows and colors I wanted. In the Foreground there will be three Buffalo Soldiers of the 10th Cavalry. Two of our own NCOWS members, OT Buchannan (Marlan Ingram), and Runner Hudson will be the models for the two main troopers, I'll probably use an original photograph for the third.

Two will be mounted, the third will be standing, holding his horses riens looking at tracks on the ground, I'll go into details of the theme of the painting later on. What you see so far is the underpainting and medium to dark tones, when finished it will not be thid dark, and the photo makes it look darker then what it actually is. So far, I've got two months work in (not full time), and probably at least three to finish it, and it will probably change from time to time.

The next one I am going to do will be of a Chuck Wagon, cook, equipement, during a cattle drive. Any questions about this painitng, feel free to ask. Oh, by the way, this is the Valley of the Gods in Utah......

OCB, When I posted that, for some reason, they weren't available. Only thing there was an outline of their size with a red X in the corner. I even tried putting the URL in by hand and got the same result. By my second post( Whoa!), they were there.........Buck 8) ::) ;) ;D

I think Lone Gunman and I talked about putting this painting on the Jan/Feb issue of the Shootist to coincide with Black History Month.

Four Eyed,
Photo Bucket (thats where I store my photos), was down for a short time yesterday for routine maintanance and that may be why they didn't load. According to them, its not supposed to affect the down loading process, but who knows.

Bill, I meant to reply the other day but then I got a phone call with some bad news.

I really like the colors so far.  I realize that this is mostly the underpainting but so far it is looking great.

I look forward to your updates.

OCB,
As the image appeared slowly on my dial-up connection, I could hardly hold my breath! I'm in awe of your talent and am patiently waiting to get my print of this outstanding work of art! Please let me know if you desire a pre-pay as I'd be happy to oblige, this one will hold a place of honor next to your other one.
Best regards and good brushing!

I appreciate the positive comments folks, probably won't be finished until some time after summer. Right now I am making two columbus depot civil war shell jackets, one for my wife and one for me.

Gabe,
don't get too excited, its just a painting but I am truely glad that you like your print..and I hope your friend at the convention liked his also (the fella I bought the mexican coin conchos from). Should have some prints available in November/December. depending on my printer. I'm going to try to get these done at a price so that any body that wants one can afford it.
