In 1874, it is adopted for Engineers/sappers a model type "mosquetón". Mosquetón means in Spanish a rifle whose length is among the long of a rifle and the long of a carbine, (an intermediate length).

In 1889, the three models are reformed.

In 1873, the "tercerola" Winchester is adopted, for the Guardia Civil and Units of the royal escort. It was the model 1873, in caliber 10,75 mm. "Tercerola" is an old Spanish word that means the same thing that carbine.
