I am seriously considering doing this...

I think it would be a fairly straight forward operation.

Anyone? I think all I would need to do is order the grip frame from VTI.

That, or just get a birds head gun in the first place...

comments? suggestions?

You know, I don't see why it wouldn't work. I've always wanted to put an Army grip frame on a cattleman, because of my large hands. The frame is the same so it should fit. Plus you don't have to worry about upgrading a new gun. If you didn't like it, you could always put the old frame back on. I don't think they're too expensive either.

Should be a straight across trade, since it's made for that frame, and that's where VTI has it listed, under the Cattleman. What I just did was a little tougher, makeing one fit my Pietta .36 BP snubnose looks good though.I'm not sure if I've made a Ubetta ...or a Puberty!

Being from Ncows, we do not recognize a BH grip on a single action colt (colt Clone) as being period correct so when I bought a Nickle plated, AWA with a pinkerton (moified birds head with out the spur) grip I replaced it with a Plow handle grip.

I ordered the grip and the grip fame from VTI.  both came finished I paid about $70.00 for both, but the problem is that each grip frame and grip are custom fit and finished to the rest of the frame on all uberti clones thy sell to EMF, Taylor, and others.  I recommend getting the finished back strap and an unfinished single piece grip from them to convert.  You will have to finish the one peace grips but that has been covered by others in a old post I am sure.

Some filing and sanding may be required on the grip, and even the grip fram, also I would recommend ordering the 3 screws that hold the fram to the gun, the two at the back strap and the one under the center of the plow handle.  There are different diameter screw heads on some of the imports and you do not want to even think about tring to machine such a cheap part.

While you have the gun apart you may want to file down the hammer spring.  This is another item in it self and may be posted on a different tread.  I have a good friend that sent me some great info on this.   I still have the parts from the pinkerton grip but they are nickle plated, if you are interested in that finish send me a PM.
