The idea for my rig came from Clint's "For a Few Dollars More" Indio was wearing a gunbelt and holster as a bandoleer rig. I thought it looked very cool. Of course he lost the gunfight to Lee Van Cleef. But, he looked cool.  Here are a couple photos of a bandoleer and holster rig I made for my 58 Remmy.  It holds 18 cartridges and is a lot more comfortable for me than a shoulder holster and a lot less straps.  That Remington is a heavy pistol and it rides about the same place as a Huckleberry. The holster  can be swapped if I want to carry a different pistol, and is adjustable for length at either end.  There is a tie down behind the nose to attach to your belt for fast draws. It's a lot easier for me to reach than my crossdraw due the the protruding bay window I have developed over the years. It allows me to carry my Bowie and empty cartridge pouch on my gun belt.

I'm going to ask a dumb question.  Are bandoleers sass legal?  I too suffer from overhang and am wondering if the grip comes down low enough to be able to draw easily.  Or do you have to reach for the sky with your off hand and do the dance while trying to lift a gun near your arm pit.

The holster sets about the same place a crossdraw would set only higher and at the same angle. I can have both arms down, bend my elbow and draw my pistol out, swing the nose around and have it cocked by the time the barrel lines with the target.  Standing flat footed by the way.  Like I said, it's adjustable for height.  It's not in the armpit area.  I'll have to have my wife take a picture of me with it on so you can see where it sets better.

In SASS competition wouldn't the tie down on the nose of the holster be illegal?  You can wear a bandoleer, but it cannot be tied down.

Where I live there is no SASS competition. Also, I think the angle on the holster cannot exceed either 30 or 35 degrees and this rig does exceed that. You can either tie the nose down or not. You can lay your arm across the holster to nail it down while you draw.  I use some bore butter to slick up the inside.  Pistol comes out like greased lightning and it keeps the gun lubed.
In my wandering through Western lore I have seen some very unusual rigs.  If I get my pistol out before you do, You lose.  Works for me!! ;)
