There's an old saying 'Even a Blind Hog Finds an Acorn...'

It means that no matter what - everybody runs into a bit of pure luck from time to time - the sort of thing that adds to the overall joy of life.

In this case - I recently wound up with some neat little period-original Pocket Guns as the result of a casual question.

Setting the stage...

One evening, I was pondering a perceived need to own a 'real' Remington Derringer.

I had always sort of wanted one - and was casting about, wondering who may be able to point me towards such a thing.

I just happened to ask a buddy - purely by happenstance - when the answer was - 'No - but I think I know a guy with a Sharps...'

I said 'Really...?'

Making a long story short - it took some time to re-contact the ostensible 'owner' - even longer for him to 'do some research' - before he and I sat down to talk seriously.

The results of those discussions are as follows:

Webley Bull Dog .450 - 1885 - the one that started them all.

Kolb Baby Hammerless .22 - 1894 - the smallest double-action revolver made.

Lowell Arms (Rollin White) .22 - 1865 - as made for Smith & Wesson.

Colt Open Top Pocket .22 - 1873 - a 'real' Open Top.

Sharps Model 1A .22 - 'probably' 1865 - 'classic' Gambler's gun.

Stevens Pocket Tip-Up .22 - late 1890's - the beginning of the Stevens line.

Several of these were a part of my display when I gave my seminar at the Convention - the others came a bit afterwards as they emerged.

The 'moral' - when you're looking 'anything' - ask 'everybody'.

You never know what's out there waiting to be discovered and enjoyed - just like that acorn...

Vaya,

It Wasn't Schoolboys and Ladies - It Was Cowtowns and Sin..."

Envy, thy colour is green I see it clearly now. ::) ;D

Almost forgot. Congratulations on your findings.

Great find, St. George.

I was at a friend's house the other night and the conversion went to guns. There was a recent estate auction in the area that had guns and other items. He said that one of the rifles was formerly owned by Buffalo Bill Cody. He thought is was a Springfield. A rep from the Cody Museum bought it. Ya never know what is hidden in closets and vaults.
