Cuts,

The old doubles with their totally original chambers, forcing cones, bores and chokes may or may not shoot well with modern one-peice plastic wads. I have two, one shoots the modern ammo really well, gives nice even 3/4 choke patterns in one barrel and full + patterns with modern ammo. Gives nice 1/2 to 3/4 choke patterns in one barrel with card and fiber wads and true full in the other barrel. It was my favorate bird gun for some years. Now it has been bumped by one I shoot even better -- one that also gives really excellent patterns with modern one-peice plastic wads

But, I have another that needed the really tight chokes opened a bit before it quite giving "over choked" patterns-- ALL other internal dimensions of barrels on second gun are original. It was and is my all-time favorate grouse and turkey gun -- as well as my only hunting gun for about 15 years.

Like we all tell each other -- pattern that gun, pattern that gun, pattern that gun. OF course, with the ammo of interest. Generalities can be very useful (as you know, I operate on the same ones as you in this case) but they are no substiture for patterning.
