Grip Frame Repair

I have picked up a Remington style revolver that has horizontal lines engraved into the inside of the grip frame all the way from the mainspring adjusting screw to the top near the trigger gaurd. 

What is the best way to repair or un-do this modification? 

Is there a filler that will work, or is it better to file down the inside of the grip until its smooth again?

Well, I aint no expert, but offhand I can think of a couple of approaches. YOu could have the scratches tig welded up and smooth the welds down. Course this could get expensive unless you can do it yourself or have a Buddy who'll do it for free. YOu could fill the scratches up with that liquid steel stuff and file it down flush--I dunno whether tis stuff will accept blueing or not, but it's suspect from that standpoint. I dunno whether Brownell's Accuraglass will adhere to steel or not. Use of liquid steel or Accuraglass would require that the grooves be degreased first..

Thanks Loredo.  I will call Brownells to see what they have.  For the liquid Steel, are you talking about the LocTight product?

If this is a brass frame the easiest would be to sand or dremel the grooves out.

Even if it's steel, if they aren't too deep you can sand them out, polish and cold blue.

If you "cold blue",  heat the part real warm first with HOT water.  Then card the bluing on.

I think I will try filling before I sand down.  I guess I can always take metal off.
