Some stainless is magnetic and some is not. Could it be nickel plated brass? Take a file to it some where where it'll never show to see if it's brass underneath the silvery surface.

Since I have 14+ guns, I've been called the Imelda Marcos of Cap&Ball. Now, that's a COMPLIMENT!

Nate Kiowa Jones made one. He started with a stainless gun and put blued cylinder, barrel, loading lever, trigger and cc hammer on it. I think he said ht got the idea from a real one with a nickel plated frame. At any rate, it looked good. I've often thought about doing one myself.

Maybe under the trigger guard would be a good spot to check it.

It`s stainless steel alright . i could tell when i was cleaning up the forgeing burrs on the frame under the brass trigger guard // at first i didn`t like it the stainless steel is high polish ... but with the nice blueing job on the barrel and cylinder ... your right this thing could grow on me .. the grips were stained to light for my likeing so i sanded them to fix ... and aplied my walnut/ cherry mix to them .. now i like it even better .. i`ll try and get some pictures on here soon .. thanks from the info ..  ;D

I almost forgot .. the trigger came already slicked up nice smooth edges and its blued same color as the barrel and loading lever , the trigger guard is brass .. the hammer is case hardened steel ... i only have pietta models to compair too , no uberti`s .. my pietta cylinders won`t fit .(.too long .). are the uberti cylinders shorter than the piettas ? `i`d like to order a drop in conversion from R&D fot it ..  the blueing on my piettas is much darker than this one , this blueing is more like you would see on a newer smith &wesson pistol .. and the only writeing markings on the barrel are underneith nothing on top .the cut notches on the rear of the cylinder for the hand look just like the ones on oldelm`s pics of the uberti cylinder in the way the groves run all the way out instead of stopping short of the end like the piettas . thanks for the help  ..

Thought you might find this interesting...apparently there is some historical basis for a two tone Remington.  I found this on Hermann Historica's website:
"Lot Nr.1935
A Remington Dualtone model 1875 - A Remington exhibition piece for the "Philadelphia Centennial Exhibition of 1876".
A transition model from the "First Type" to the "Second Type". "Pinched post front sight", but without the lanyard ring and with the calibre designation "44" already on the left side of the barrel frame in front of the cylinder. Serial number "334", calibre .44 CF. Smooth, round barrel, 7 1/2 inches long. Six shot. Inscribed "E. Remington & Sons, Ilion, N.Y. U.S.A." on the barrel, reading from the frame to the front sight. Barrel and trigger guard are completely blued. The hammer is case-hardened and has edge engraving. Factory nickel-plating on the frame and cylinder is intact. In addition, the cylinder has light vine engraving alongside each chamber. Black, hard-rubber grip panels with monogram. Unfired, almost new condition with minimal storage marks.
According to the included evaluation in 1981 by Larry Wilson and Larry Goodstal (curator of the Remington Gun Museum), the revolver was a part of the Remington Company's Presentation at the 1876 Fair in Philadelphia.
Provenance: Remington Gun Museum Collection."

If totally original, I think it's interesting that this piece sports a pair of the hard rubber grips usually only associated with the 1890 model...
