Apache Jim

What is the recommended overall cartridge length for 56-50 Taylors?

Thanks

Apache Jim,

You may have to look around some to find the answer to your question;  As a starting place why not check out the post entitled, Describe & List Your Best Reloading System for the 56-50 Spencer.

Or, I'm sure someone will respond to your question.

Apache Jim,
I think it depends on the rifle.  Mine isn't too finiky as I've crimped over the driving band on DW's Lee mould and in the last grease groove.  I crimp in the crimping groove of the Lyman 512139 bullet.  This is something I'm still playing with but somewhere between 1.55 and 1.65.  Your mileage may vary

Alot will also depend on the bullet design.

My 350gr modified Lee moulds  (which are still available for sale...) work just fine at 1.62"

You also need to make sure you work the action "swiftly" and not slow/jerky. (My dad found that out...)

The 56-50 is a WONDERFUL cartridge to shoot.
