I'm planning to make a three-legged folding shooting stool with a leather seat suspeended from the three legs, which will be lashed together at the flexing joint. I'm fresh out of rawhide, but suppose I could use sisal or manilla rope to be period correct. What other strong, durable cordage would have been common at this time?

Hey ORegon Bill,
If you need Rawhide, it is no further than your grocery store or a pet supply.   Check out my post http://www.cascity.com/forumhall/index.php/topic,4705.0.html in the Old Fashion Way on making a Parfleche.  I used a dog bone-rawhide chew toy.   Great way to make rawhide lacing too.

Mogorilla: What an ingenious use of rawhide chews. Our Brittany and our Shepherd would no doubt very much appreciate your parfleches!
