I have been shooting C&B revolvers since 1975 and have always used loose powder, balls and caps. Now I am building a custom display case for my brace of 1858 Remingtons. Seeing that a lot of cased set include some combustable paper cartridges, I have a yearning to roll some of my own. What I would like to to make combustable paper cartridges that look like the ones shown in all the "War Between The States"  books I have seen. They all show tapered cartrirdges with conical bullets. Anyone out there know how to make these? If I do roll my opwn, I may just do all my shooting with them.... so they need to reliable as well and authentic looking..
Thanks.............
P.S.... I have always used Crisco as an over the ball lube.... anyone have something else that they like?

Sgt. John used to have an excellent stickie about making paper carts, with pics and everything.  Hopefully he saved it and maybe could e-mail it to you.

Try;

<www.thehighroad.org>  Go to "tools and technologies > Blackpowder Shooting > Paper Cartridges, step by step photos..

I make combustable cartridges for my BP pistols and I am completely sold on them.  I make them while watching TV with the wife.  They absolutely save much time at the range.

Definately go to that Highroad.com article,  as it is the one that got me started on making them!

I have a few made up already- just waiting for Spring!

Thanks QBall.  I've added that article to my library.

Cap & Ball cartridges were once available in sealed 6 - round packs.  Does anyone know what they looked like, or how to make a modern substitute?  Timuchin, in the highroad article uses plastic cartridge boxes, but something close to the original would be great.

You need to scroll down a bit and look at the Sgt's pictures.
