For Christmas I got a new Dillon 550B reloading machine.  I'm now looking for a bench to buy.  Seems all the benches have drawers or doors that if I mount the machine on the edge of the bench, the machine will be in the way of the doors or drawers.  Do many of you use the Dillon Strong Mount?  If so, what do you think of the Strong Mount?

Have one on my SDB, like it. Got the press up higher so I can see better( personal preference). Also has a tray attached to it for bullets and it distributes the down force over more area of the bench top. My bench has drawers under it as well
I might be slow, but I'm mostly accurate.....

I bought mine without the strong mount, but added it soon after. I don't like standing when I'm reloading and with the strong mount it is just the right height to sit on a bar stool. The bullet tray is also a nice feature.

Birdgun,

The Strong Mount is the only way to go.  I have added them to both of my Dillon 550's.  It not only gets the press up to a more convenient working height but the press can be mounted right out to the edge of the bench and the linkage doesn't extend below the bench top to interfere with drawers or anything else below the bench top.  As for strength, once everthing is bolted down it is as solid as a rock.

Birdgun, ditto with what the others have said. The strong mount is worth the money. Got one on my 550 now.

I don't use one.  I don't need to raise the press up at all.  I built the bench it's on to the height that I wanted it.

I wouldn't have a 550 or 650 without a strong mount.

I have two 550bs and have them mounted on my old steel work bench and it was built with high legs  that I don't need to have them up on mounts.I think if you need a bench you should have a go at building one to the height that you want.

I don't have one, I built my bench where I wanted it and went from there.  Actually, when I got my Dillion's, they didn't have a strong mount.  Now, I'm down to one, but I have no trouble loading anything, except 56-50 Spencer cause they don't make a shell plate for it :(

I had one built out of wood, saved about 50 dollars for not installing one with my square Deal B... ;D

I use the strong mount because it puts the press higher.

Standard workbench height + strong mount = Exactly right for "offhand" ammo makin'.

Hi  from Spain Birdgun Quail:

I use the strong mount because  I prefer to be seated when I am reloading. I think that i made a good purchase.

Big Dipstick

I do not use the strong mount cuz I load sitting down, and have a custom bench made of 2 inch thick pine with no drawers.

Thanks for the information.  Gives a future reloader like me something to think about when it comes time to buy a reloader.
