I just got my hot little hands on a Schofield SN 111.  Has anyone other that the guy with 226 had a problem?  Also, anyone out there have 222 or 888.  Yea, you guessed it 1 left 2 right or aces and eights.
Let me take this time to wish all of you a very Merry Christmas and a great shooting New Year!!

Can you give us the background on when the frame cracking problem started?  Did the factory fix these?

You got it in one!!!  I bought the gun to resell but after I fired it I fell in love and now it is one of my main match guns.  So, it will be getting a lot of rounds fired, hence the worry over possible frame problems.  As for the numbers, I just think it would be neat to have them or 88X or X88.  I can never remember what the 5th card was in Wild Bills hand.
Anyway, Joss thanks for helping this poor Fool out.

I guess I'll ask the question again another way, has anyone heard of the frames cracking on these earlier serial numbered guns?

Grapeshot

I had serial # 226.  I was having trouble with cocking and cylinder rotation with this gun for a while.  I finally sent it to Navy Arms to see if they could straighten out that problem.  Within a week I got a call from Navy Arms and was told that I had cracks in the frame and the cylinder.  Since I had purchased this gun 10 years earlier, there was nothing they could do for me.  I gave this gun to the US Army Ordnance Museum as a display piece for their U.S. Military handgun display.  I'm glad to see that this problem is being addressed and maybe Navy Arms will look into a trade in for what appears to be a manufacture's defect.
Listen!  Do you hear that?  The roar of Cannons and the screams of the dying.  Ahh!  Music to my ears.

Has the problem been rectified in later serial numbered guns?
