Can some one tell me the difference in the cylniders on a Pietta 1858 remmie and a Uberti 1858 remmie 44 cal. I only own the Piettas , and have been looking at a Uberti model , and i have so many spare cylinders for my Piettas i`m afraid i`ll have a hard time telling them apart ..and if its just a timeing issue , i may have problems keeping the cylinders seprated .any light on the sub . much appreciated .

The Pietta cylinders are slightly longer than the Uberti cylinders, by a few thousanths of an inch.

so will the uberti work in the piettas  but the pietta cylinders will be a bit long for the uberti  , i`m thinking mabe fileing a bit on the barrel end would make them interchange .. anyone done this ?

You might need to file on the frame too. I wouldn't do it. You could end up with a larger gap than you want. Just take a drop of fingernail polish on each cylinder to identify it. Use a different color or 1 vs 2 dots for each brand.
Also, check the diameter of the cylinder pins for each. They could be of a different diameter and therefore there could be a little wobble. I don't have a Pietta or I would have checked it.

this is bad .. something to consider , when the cylinder swap is so quick on the remmies . i wouldn`t never take any off the frame , the barrel to cylinder is so tight on the remmies , i wouldn`t think a little trim there would hurt . i`ve tried the nail polish on my empty chamber nipple , i use so much windex between loads , it just doesn`t stay on . thanks for the imput .

Sundance,
I don't use Windex and the nail polish has stayed on for YEARS. I use mostly water soluble oils (Ballistol or machining oil) + water+soaps (Murphy's or dishwashing liquid soaps) in moose milk type BP solvents. Another excellent BP solvent is the 20/10 Bug formula windshield cleaner (pink color) you put in the squirter reservoir of your car. It goes for 1-2 bucks a gallon and has extra detergents in it to cut the fouling. Fortunately there are dozens of recipes for BP solvents and they all seem to work pretty well. Any household water based cleaner works.

;D now there`s a subject , last weekend a new shooter made the mistake of asking a group of 5 darksiders what is the best way and what to use to clean his guns .. lol in 5 min. he had 5 different answers ... the poor guy looked so confused .. and each answer had a very good reason for being the best . sounded like some witches brews to me ... maybe thats why they call it the DarkSide .. maybe i`ll try a squirt of moose milk in my windex .. ;D

Me (1) I pop mine in the dish washer, when ma ain't looken ( be careful here of a womans wrath hee hee) then (2) I pops em in the oven until dry. (about 150 degrees for 20-30 minutes) (3) Then while they are still warm I drop' em in my little vat of olive oil no fuss no muss and no rust. The warm steel soaks the olive oil into the poores of the metal which equals less fouling. Course there are probably one to 100 different systems that works well for everyone of several 100 different darksider!  ::) ;D
Cousin we been ashooten at each other all day! How about we stop for a beer then we kin go home and get our axes. Or just as good, lets forget this whole dang feud, I'm agetten too old for this anyhow!

One thing to remember when throwing the remmies in the dishwasher , no one told me to be sure and turn the heated dry cyc. off ... mine come out covered in rust because of the heat cyc . now i just clean them in the kitchen sink .. then off the the wifes bathroom where she keeps her high power hair dryer ... that thing works great to dry them quickly .... just don`t let her catch ya ...  ;D
