From what I heard, they had a problem recoving costs on shipping/gas prices going up and the exchange rates.

Did it need to go up $20? A quick analysis is no...but, Cabelas is not out to lose money nor are they prepared to change prices on a whim.

Cabelas has had the lowest prices on the 1851 and 1858 for a long time. (Pietta) We were due for a price increase at some point.

This is true with the price of gas going up so much .. but heck they went up 30 bucks on the stainless remmie .. and i was just fixin to order a pair .. good lord last year cabelas sent me a hard cover catalog it had to cost them 30 bucks a piece to make ..kinda made me think the prices were written in stone for a year or two anyway ..  made me wonder just how much did i spend there, when that catalog arrived ..lol this thing is as thick as a metro phone book ..and built to last a life time .

Prices go up enough, it will finally make since me buying from Taylors at wholesale. When I was looking to by 58 Remy, I was able to go to Cabelas and buy it cheaper then Taylors' wholesale. Didn't make sence to me but I bought from Cabelas

Pappy do you just need a Resale Business Licence to buy Wholesale from Taylors? You caught my intrest with your posting.
Thanks,
SG

The $20 hike is true, Administration of Cabelas explained to a friend of mine that inquired by phone. Italy increased the prices due to the Euro...plus transport and shipping costs. Taylors, Traditions everybody's prices went up.

Texas Jacks, Is running a sale on the Cimmaron Uberti 1858's right now for $229.00. As you remington shooters probably know already the Uberti is a much closer clone then the Pietta (of which I have one) as far as the contour, grips and weght of the original Remington 1858s. Nice guns.... I'm gonna order one today....I can see my next conversion already ;D ;D

I just traded for a Uberti 2004 and got it UPS today, very pleased with it. Frame is about .025" thinner than a Pietta, grip midway about .100" thinner. My Armi San Paolo, now Euroarms, is an exact duplicate of an original Remington 1858...still much smaller. But the Uberti feels great and does feel better in my hand than my Pietta. The Kirst .44REM ported is on my list.

Some of yall may not have noticed that while the prices have gone up on most of the guns, they did also expand the lineup at the same time.  Most obvious one was the Lemat clone.

I just visited Texas Jacks and the Uberti 1858 is $229.00 on sale (regularly $239) but the Cimmaron 1858 is $259.00.
What is the difference between the two?
