Howdy all,

I'm a newbie.
I have a pair of BV 44's and a SxS. I need a levergun.
I was hopin to get some opinions on a couple.
I am currently lookin at a Henry Big Boy in 44, or the Marlin Trails End in 44.

I don't have any personal experience with either.

Has anyne shot both, any opinions.

Thanks

Doc Shapiro

The Henry Big Boy has been disapproved for the game.  In other words, it ain't allowed.

I would also strongly urge you to avoid the Winchester Model 94 action.  The Marlin that you mentioned is a very good gun and should serve you well.

Howdy,

I'd like to modify Doc's statement.
The Henry Big Boy is in a state of flux.  It was not approved for use by SASS.
However, it has been used at local shoots (not ours) and SASS continues to take advertising from Henry.  In fact, I believe that a Big Boy was given out as a prize at End of Trail.  So, if you must, then proceed at your own peril.  The future of the Henry BB is far from certain.

I would agree that a Marlin is a great gun for beginners and old-timers too.
Adios,

Thanks for the info.
I don't have the scratch right now to buy a gun I may not be able to use.

I appreciate the feedback, you may have saved me from a costly mistake.

I own 2 Marlin 1894's. One is .44 mag and the other is .45 Colt. I will not use anything but Marlin's.

I think the new Winchester 92 limited edition short rifles are SWEET.  I believe they are avalable in 44M/44spl.

Calamity Jane

I'd never tell a boudy what they oughtta do ('less I tell 'em to XXX off  :o ) but I'z been watchin lever gunz at matches fer 'bout three years now - seein what werks good.

Now I don't know who shoots what ammo but when I watch shooters on the line, the ONLY gun that seems to feed flawlessly and is FAST to boot is the '66 Uberti clone.

Now I'z got a Uberti '66 'n' I'll give ya fair warning, it'll rain hot brass all over ya! But other than that, it ain't let me down once in the 3 years I been shootin it - whal, 'cept fer the time somebody threw some 45LC in my box of 44-40. Didcha know that 45LC wont chamber in a 44WCF no matter how hard ya try?  ;D

Paper Chaser

Well, let's see: probably as many opinions as members here but the Rossi '92 is quite popular as well as the Marlins.  Try as many as you can: rifles (24"); carbines(20"), etc.
AND Calamity is 100% correct: I get showered with hot brass every time with my '66 Uberti clone but who cares?
Good luck and hit that steel!!!
