Authenticity Question--Shotgun Chaps

Anyone know of a sutler, or manufacturer of historically accurate chaps for our time period? I assume they would be shotgun chaps. There are about a billion folks on the web that make them, but I don't have any experience with any of them. My apologies if this has been addressed in another post. I've searched and din't see anything. Thanks.

That said, I would first try to find a quality leather smith and have a pair made to your particular measurements, they would be more comfortable and you would have a better pair of chaps...

If you want a pair of shotgun chaps made by somebody who knows what he is doing, contact Nolan Sackett. I can't remember the name of his outfit, but Nolan deals in nothing but custom work that is absolutlely researched to the nth degree as far as being period correct. I don't think you can get a pair of chaps that are as right as his from the over the counter variety of merchants. If you go into the the search engine here (or check the leather working forum that the Marshall has set up here at CAS-CITY for Nolan Sackett), and type in Nolan Sackett you should come up with his name. Chaps are something I would have some one make for me and not waste my money on the run of the mill stuff you see advertised, get-em right the first time.

What Bill said about Nolan Sackett at Wild Rose Trading Company is true and more. He is absolutely an artist. He is my first choice on leather and knifes.

If you scroll down his chap page you will see the shotgun chaps that he makes. He is a custom maker and he will give you advise on what was period correct for the time period you want.
I have a pair of shotgun chaps from Shooting Star and I am very pleased with them, but I hope to get a pair from Nolan also.

Thanks for the suggestions. Wild Rose makes some fine examples. I just about soiled myself when I saw their base price was $950! I can buy a new '73 rifle for less money. Shooting Star's prices are a little more easily digested and less offensive to Mrs. County. I have not checked with the local saddle maker yet. Mock Brother's has made a few knife sheaths for me. Thanks again.
