I am very pleased the hat now has such a good home!

This was the hat of (S.Sgt.) John F Sukey, who passed away in 2018 at the age of 80.  Others here in the Barracks might remember him as a military reenactor, collector of Victorian-era British militaria and proprietor of the online shop "British Military Accoutrements".  I never got to meet John in the flesh, but we communicated off and on for years.  Another "online acquaintance" of mine purchased a "lot" of several items from the online auction of John's collection, which happened to include this hat, and he sent it to me since it was not in his area of interest but was aware of my conncection with John ...

Photo of John sukey in Royal Arillery uniform is attached ... and here, for anyone who might be interested is a link to his obituary online - https://www.legacy.com/us/obituaries/tucson/name/john-sukey-obituary?id=13612184

Excellent idea!  So far as I am aware, John was unmarried and had no children (as might well be confirmed by lack of mention of any such individuals in his obit, and the fact that his effects and collections were auctioned) so perhaps his hat on display can serve in some small way as a memorial to him ...

Rattlesnake Jack,

....if I may, regarding your friend, a cousin of mine said this after we lost a good friend of our Ranger and 1812 group......." our friend though he is no longer physically with us, has gone ahead to scout the trail, set the camp and tend the fire. Preparing the way for those of us that will one day follow him"!
