Massanutten

Why can't I find out anything about Massanutten, Virginia?  A search turns up a single page about a resort.

My family was there in the 17th-18th century and was almost wiped out in an Indian uprising (according to family "history").

Seems one son had gone to Boston to "read for the law" and was spared the massacre.

Any help with the history of the place will be appreciated, but I don't give a hoot about resorts.

You sure its still in Virginia Forty Rod. You know parts of Old Virginia became West Virginia, Kentuckey and even North Carolina.

There's a Massanutten Mountain in Va. with a ski resort.

  I suspect the problem with findin' the place is because after the Injuns got through with it, it was a whole...."Massanutten."

Don't feel bad, Forty, I can't find any evidence of Caroline, Lancaster County, Virginia either. Lancaster County exists, just can't find any evidence of Caroline, including looking at some maps from the 1860's. Was probably a cross roads store that contained the post office............Buck

Forty Rod, the place your looking for is about an hour from where Dig'em Deep and I live.  Near Harrisonburg Virginia.  It does have a sky resort and all on the mountain.  Let me know what you may be looking for, maybe I can help you out.

Mostly looking forr a history of the place with names and dates.  Lucky gave me some of it in one of his links, but I'd like more.

Been meaning to research this for forty five years.  Now I have a little time to do it.

Fourty, Ya might be lookin for the wrong thing, I was readin a book on the war of northern aggression and they mentioned a Mountain near the Shenandoah valley by that name. Might be something to check out
