Good Morning:

Just wondering, I am buying a Cimarron that the finish is sort of blemished on, and thought to myself, self, you could have this one engraved. The finish is already sort of blemished etc, so, why not send this off, get it engraved etc. I want the minimum engraving, say a bit on each of the flutes of the cylinder, and a little on the Barrel, name on the Backstrap and maybe something on the bottom of the trigger guard.

I have seen laser engraving etc, but don't know too much about it. It doesn't have to be masterpiece work, but I will probably decide this will be my carry gun for most things, put Tru-Ivory Grips on it etc.

Who do I call? Thanks,

Steve

What Steel Horse said.

I know a lot of folks like that cheap laser engraving, but that can actually wear off with use. I had four of my stainless guns (no rebluing required) done by master engraver Fred Henderson, who was semi-retired at the time. Fred used the hammer and chisel and did a beautiful job. Unfortunately, he passed away last year.

If you've got the money, I would go for the gusto rather than settle for second best.

As Big John alluded to, Jim D. does engraving, not laser engraving.

If you happen to get some work done by Scratch (Jim Downing) tell him it would be nice if he came out and shot with his club once in a while.  ;D Just joshin'.  He does do good work though!

Jim was possibly the busiest vendor at the 1st Illinois State shoot in Sparta last summer.  He turned out some fantastic work in a very short period of time.  Very personable, and wants to ensure the owner is satisfied.   ;)

I'm going to recommend fellow SASS member Longlinee Charlie, aka Charles Glackman of Fairland, In. to you. He does excellent work at very fair prices. You can contact him at longlinecharlie@lightbound.com Here's a couple pics of my 1860 Henry that he did. He has several more pics of his work that he can email you.

Highlander - Downing is the best that I have ever seen, Longline Charlie is also very good, but it almost seems to me like they do collector type work on guns.
I been thinking about getting a Taylors #700AWE - 1873 S.A. Cattleman 'Photo Engraved' Revolver for SASS shooting and save a bundle of money.

Each to his own, but I would rather use the extra cash to buy another piece.......

You're welcome Highlander.

Sheriff that Taylors Photo engraved is in the white and will wear pretty quick. It's more like an etching (not very deep).  Longline Charlie can do just about any style engraving that you want.

Howdy Sherriff Moses.

Just wondering, what do they get for that "photoengraved" revolver?

As far as spending a little more, I have several shooters, and this gun (I was going to get a USFA, but they were TOTALLY UNRESPONSIVE to either of the three dealers I contacted), will be my "carry gun" for hunting, trips to the West, on horseback etc.  I want this to be on the the Grandkid's heirlooms.  Dress it up, wear it quite a bit, get some "honest wear" on it, and have something they'll want to keep.

However, that PhotoEngraved shooter is pretty sharp.

Thanks for all of the input folks...

Contact USFA yourself. I have always gotten fast responses from them.

You can order from them, then find a dealer that will accept shipment. Also, see if Marshal Halloway can help you out. He does have a piece of their ear.
