Gentlemen, I'm rebuilding a Krag carbine with a new CMP barrel.  Today I got a new old stock bolt for it from Granpa's Gun Parts.  There's nothing like scrubbing one hundred twenty five year old cosmoline out of a brand new, never used bolt.  I also replaced the main spring and the firing pin while I had it apart.  Should turn into a great shooter!

I look forward to seeing this!
Civilize them with a Krag . . .

I should add it's an 1899 Carbine.  It came with an actual 1899 stock and hand guard on a cut down rifle.

Exciting update!  (Exciting to me, at least.)  CMP shipping label arrived last Monday to send in my carbine.  An armorer called this morning to say they were ready to do the re-barrel and ask if I had any questions.  They just called back to ask if I needed a sight blade, but they've already got the barrel on and headspaced.  I'd guess there's at least a chance the old girl will be in my hands by the end of the week, or at least by next week.  Can't wait!

Next time use gasoline or JP-4 - either will take off cosmoline in minutes...

Also looking forward to seeing your 1899 carbine. You were fortunate to get a correct handguard along with your stock.

That's where I got the bolt, mainspring, and firing pin.  He's a great source for Krag and Trapdoor parts.

This is a bit frustrating.  They had it done on the 11th and it still hasn't shipped.  Was hoping to be shooting it already.

....Grandpa's Gun Parts is good source for repairing these old antiques. I found the pieces to return my 1901 DA Colt to service.

Got the carbine back!  Haven't gotten to shoot it yet (it IS raining, after all), but it looks good!  Will report on function when I get to put it through it paces.
