Dirty Billy's Hats offers a beatiful example of this hat, but I was wondering if any other sutler/vendor offers a Shako like this.  DBH hats are great, but I'm afraid he's a little out of my price range.  Anyone know of another source for one, even a "naked" shell that I could "dress" to fit?  I was impressed with Hardtack Henry's Infantry dress cap at the Muster, and thought I might try something similar for next year.

Civilize them with a Krag . . .

I have to agree with Sgt Drydock, Hatcrafters makes a fairly decent hat.  I had one of their 1851 Shako's and have one of their Union Slouch Hats.  Well Made and fairly durable.  Should do you well for the costume contests.
Listen!  Do you hear that?  The roar of Cannons and the screams of the dying.  Ahh!  Music to my ears.

"there is a company I ordered a 1880's cavalry hat from some years ago , very nice quality fur felt and lined "
But of the top of my head I couldn't think of their name.....
