A crappy 92 in 25-20 wandered into my workshop a few weeks back.  I have been scrubbing the bore for weeks and I believe it is not salvageable.  Is a 1906 "92 capable of handling a .357 Maximum?

Just a WAG, but wouldn't you have to stick with an overall length in the same ballpark as the 25-20?

Rebore or rebarrel to 32-20?

This  (25/20 to 32/20) is easy all ya got to do is change the barrel (or rebore it and re fit it)

Anything else (that changes rim diameter and case body diameter) gets seriously difficult
Alterations to the innards are required and some of it is tricky gunsmithing - cartridge lifter, magazine stopper, feed rails, If ya can buy Rossi parts maybe 357 mag ?

Been there done it  25/20 to 38/40

I figured as much on the conversion to .357 Max.  A lot of these were converted to .357 in the '50s and '60s.  My preference would be 38WCF, but I knew that would be a problem and I have a real nice one and a real good shooter.  I'll have to figure out what I want to do with it.  Thank all y'all for your input.

You can find good barrels in .32-20 or .25-20 occasionally in e-Bay.  That would probably be the best fix.  Having it rebored to a .32-20 would be better yet.

Maybe just have that barrel relined and chambered back in 25-20?
