I just picked up a new Henry Big Boy in .357 mag  at the gun show in Indy yesterday and want to start shootin her. I cast .357 mag boolits for my Uberti 1873 cattleman Birdshead revolver. I'd like to use the same ammo for the new Henry but the boolits I'm casting have a round nose profile. In my other lever guns I shoot a RNFP boolit, so my question is, is it safe to shoot a round nose boolit in a leeever gun?
Thanks,
Paul

Only if you're bucking for a Darwin award. ;D

Keep RNFP in the lever gun.

I have shot many, many .38 special and .357 mag round nosed bullets from both a Henry and a Rossi with no issues. Basically because that is what I had. I now have a mold that makes rnfp, so that is what I will gradually move towards.

I just love it.  Someone always has to chime in with "I been doin that fer years" add nausieum.  I'm probably stepping on toes, but just because someone gets LUCKY and does something wrong, doesn't make it right.  I have an acquaintance whom is missing the better part of his left hand from a magazine detonation.  Bad Ju Ju.

Run ONLY RNFP bullets in a tubular Magazine rifle.  It will also be found, Lever Rifles will not digest Semi-Wadcutters either (mostly).

A "frugal fix" (pun intended) is to run a coarse file a few times across the roundnose tip of each bullet.
Hey presto: You have a safe to shoot flatnose lever-gun bullet.
(And a bench-grinder will speed up the whole process materially...)

Well thanks for the info it seems a new mould is in my future. All my moulds are either NOE, or Lyman, but the Lee .358-158 RF seems to have a good boolit for .357 leeever guns.
Thanks,

Seen two magazine detonations in my time, both .38 factory RNs. The Lee mold is an excellent rifle bullet.
Civilize them with a Krag . . .
