I have decided to have some grips made to mimic a set of grips that I seen in the Packing Iron book and since I am having the new grips made I figured I def. needed some new leather for the gun.

I am in the process of making a California Slim Jim style holster for my 51 Conversion. I thought I would share a few photos of the progress so far. I am almost done but still may antique it. I am doing an oil finish on this one.

Anyways, here area few photos of the process so far. I def. need practice on my carving but the only way to get better is to actually do it so here it is.

And since my grip frame on my 51 Conversion is away at the grip maker's shop one of my 51 Navy C&B revolvers will have to stand in as a stunt double.

The progress so far is just after a second oiling. I still plan to top coat it and antique it some so that the carving will pop a little more.

Thanks for looking.

Lookin' mighty good there, pard. It should really pop after you put the antiquing on  it.

Planning on doing some of that tomorrow. I sealed it up today after a couple more coats of oil. Hoping the antiqing will do it some good.

Thanks for the comments.

Finished up the holster this morning. I like what I have and I know my 51 Conversion will be right at home in it once I get the grips back and get it back together.

Carving is a challenge for me but I enjoy the process. The bevel tool is what I think gives me the most trouble. Also, when the project is full of lines it is sometimes hard to distinguish what is background. Hope to only get better with more experience.

Thanks for checking out my projects.

Rube, I think you did a great job here, not only with the construction, but the carving too, you can be proud of what you have done, I like your makers mark also, well done all around...

Thanks Ten Wolves. I'm happy with it. We are our own worst critics I guess. Always just looking to improve.

Howdy Rube,

Gorgeous work. It's hard to imagine any improvement over that effort, but keep up the good work.
