I grant you, we here are more gravitated to SAA's & lever actions.
However, if like me you shoot vintage autoloaders and you reload for same...

Here is a simple $7.00 Do it yourself brass catcher. My 7.63  C96 Mauser brass is some scarce and loaded 9MM ( P38 & Luger) is non-available at this writing (12/17/20) ( at least at a non-rape pricing )

I purchased a 54"  $4.99 tomato cage ( these are simple welded wire hoops )  Ace Hardware, Home Depot or Walmart.
cut it down and folded the extended tines to form a bottom/back.

I also picked up a nylon mesh laundry bag @ $1.89 ( Walmart,  Amazon.com or Ace Hardware )

Simply slide the cage into the bag and snug up the draw string , I zip tied the bag to the opening hoop , also there a bit to much depth in the bag, a twist to snug it up and zip tie to hold the twist. and Bobs your Uncle  ;D

No more search for ejected brass in the grass or dirt, and no bending over once you do find it

Hmm, now I'm wondering if a pop-up mesh laundry hamper would work?  About $3 from Wally world.

Hmmmm yeah  I suppose , I formally avoid Wally world like the plague , now because of the plague !

But Amazon has these, and had I not lived under a rock , I might have know these existed   :-[

I ordered one because it collapses and will travel to the range better

Still , I suppose there is some satisfaction in DIY    :-* and I use it at the home gallery   :)

I just cut the grass extremely short, and if necessary I get out the metal detector. My target range has many different targets, which require me to not stand in the same place. Any kind of brass catcher simply will not work for me. But I do like your ideas.

Jeremiah Jones

My brass catcher is named Jose and he works cheep.   ;D

At the private range I used to attend, spent brass that hit the ground was considered the range's....

There was no hard & set rule about that , more an understanding (with signs to attest ) and they ( the range  ) gathered it to sell  to support the youth program.   However "if" you truly wished you could collect your caliber.

Silver Creek Slim

I got some tomato cages in the shed. I might have to try this.

How heat resistant is the mesh? I tried using plastic tarps before. Not too bad for pistol, but brass from my Garand was hot enough to melt the plastic. Cases would stick to the plastic and either leave a hole, or melted plastic semi permanently attached to the case, or both.

Major 2

The mesh is nylon twine, I see no distortion ...
