Rebuilding a 76 ( 45-60 )Win. Winchester used a 3/16 x 36 x 1 & 27/64 " screw to hold the side plates on & I need to tap the hole in the right side plate , ( I made both side plates, had a tap for the loading gate screw ) , I believe a 10 x 36 is the same size , tell me if I'm wrong . Found some on the bay place ,, to order.

  coffee's ready ,, Hootmix.

Proceed with caution - cant remember if its 32tpi or 36 tpi but one or tother has three different sizes/with the same TPI - spend some time with google studying thread charts .

32 TPI is 5/32 whitworth, 3/16 unified fine, 6x32 and 8x32 unified, 5x0.8 metric - so theres five different screws all with 32TPI (6x32 and 8x32 is where we get messed up with ramrod fittings)
36 TPI is less common - 8x36unified fine, and metric 4x0.7 (I thought there was a 10x36 but cant find it on the charts)

Hey guys,, i'm using Arthur Pirkle's book to get thread & screw sizes ,, there are "3" screws on a 76 that require a 3/16 x 36 screws,, the side plates are 1 of the three. But a #10 X 36 is the same. Looked at Homestead the tap is $ 22.00 + shipping ,, the die is about $9.00 + shipping ,, can order from d-bay for  about $ 5-8.00 for both ,,,, IF you don't mind waiting ,, & waiting & waiting , to come from a place far-far -far away. ( Will probable do Homestead ).
Dusty o'l son hope everything their OK, glad to see you on here.

( bad day ) need coffee,, Hootmix.
