Probly a dumb question, but, I picked up a 1851 navy colt at a gun show some time ago, and have never shot it because for some reason Uberti put a "squished" triggerguard on it and it's very uncomfortable. It's marked Cimarron, Houston, Tx. Emailed Cimarron to see, roughly, how old it is, and whether or not there is a different triggerguard available. He wanted the serial #, so I gave it to him, and he said he couldn't find it in their database.
Could any of you help?
Thanks

I guess to ask a different way, aren't the triggerguards on most the same size and shape as a saa? If so, as long as it's an Uberti part, will it fit?

Major 2

On the 51 Navy there was Square back and the rounded TG ....

You can indeed swap out the two, with two provisos

Uberti to Uberti parts .... Pietta and others will not necessarily line up screw holes

and the date codes are similar - the Date Code will be two letters inside a square [AD] for example

If your date code is a Roman Numeral [XXX] for example , it is an early gun and may not align screw holes

I suggest you contact VTI

Major- thanks for the reply. Can't really find numbers or letters in brackets.
What I can find is- serial #1251**, right above that it's marked AII.
Top of barrel says Cimarron Arms Co. Houston Tx
Left side of frame says A. Uberti&Co, Italy

One thing I did come across is that this is what they call a small oval triggerguard used in the early production Colts. The one I like is the round or large oval from late production Colts.

Major 2

Cimarron Arms Co. Houston Tx.

that tells me something  as to date :

Mike Harvey opened Cimarron in Houston in 1984 he later moved it to Fredericksburg, Texas.

I think your AII  is in fact AI ]  the [ AI ] date code is lightly stamped , I believe your gun was made in 1982

Course that is without looking at it...
