I'm starting off in CAS and am looking for a holster to use - something not too pricey around maybe $70, $80 (good enough to use til I get a lot smarter and know what expensive rig to get) but I wasn't sure what makers to look at, or if any of the makers on the forum had leather available.  I was thinking of an El Paso holster, but I hear the wait time is really long and I was looking for a quick product.  -Thanks

Oklahoma Leather is decent enough for the pard just starting out.  Try Cabelas for this brand.  You are wise to wait until you see what you really need prior to buying expensive leather products.  Regards. Deadeye.

Oklahoma leather does make an impressive product, for the price. Just don't call the factory. You'll either get to talk to someone that's bi-polar or retarded.

I just can't recommend Oklahoma Leather.. granted it is entry level priced around $26 @ Cabela's

It is also thin about 7-8 oz. , soft and quite oily... I've seen a site the offered these products a 1/2 price sale ( that was after you saw the sites regular mark up of $49 +  ::)

It will work .. for a while, then soften, then gun will sink a bit lower in it due to it's weight ,and it will misshapen in fairly short order.
You'll be looking for better leather ( having already spent the initial cost ) it will also leave an oily stain on clothes.

Look at Circle K or Kirkpatrick in the $45-60 range or try David Carrico maker ( this BB Vendors) in the $35 (holster) on up....

or RL Hanchett *Triggersmith (this BB ) also quality work at very fair prices ...

Yes , both RL & Dave are friends of mine, but they have some fine products and they won't break your bank...
see for yourself... you won't be sorry  :)

when planets align...do the deal !

If you go with Carricos you will be waiting a few months.  I have one on order with him and he extending his original estimate of time to completion by a month when I called him last week.  The good thing is that he doesnt charge your card until he gets ready to ship the item.   :D

Howdy Pards and Pardettes.

OK, Pard there was a buzz about a pard on e'bay, Red something, his stuff looked ok at a glance but I don't know if he is still in business or not.

I would recomend getting two strong side (right and left) holsters to begin with, and unless you are committed to it don't get a buscadero first thing.  If you buy decent quality leather, even the inexpensive stuff, it will last long enough to become a loaner rig, or just one for another catagorie.

I'm with the Major about cheap leather, if you got a $10.00 gun buy a $10.00 holster, anything less than $50.00 a holster, and$100.00 for a cartridge belt  is probably going to dissapoint you.  You might try on the classified on the wire and the traders rondevous on The open range to look for used leather for sale.  Some of it is pretty good.  As a last resort you can go to the Marshal and Tequila's Store and price some Kirkpatrik rigs.  Good stuff fair price, not cheap but not custom prices either.

That is all I think I know.
