Glazed pigskin for lining belts?

Ok, here is where I am at... A fella asked me to make a Buscadaro rig for his new .22 six gun. I had bought some glazed pigskin prior to this, wanting to try it as a belt lining. Seemed like the perfect opportunity to try it out. I glue it down with Wildwood, and glue all the way to the edge. Not only is it pulling up from the edges after stitching, but it doesn't want to burnsh to the leather.

Did I make a bad decision, or just doing something wrong?

I've never used glazed pigskin. Maybe it has something to do with the tanning process. Could you try gluing a small scrap after cleaning it with leather stripper? Maybe one of the more experienced members will be able to shed some light on that.

I have never used leather stripper, normally just alcyhol. Is there a difference?

Alcohol should have done the trick unless there's something in the process that isn't dissolved by alcohol. I know the thinner for Barge Cement is way stronger than just alcohol. I believe it contains toluene.

I don't know squat about leather work.  I know a lot about adhesives.  Any time you have any kind of "finish" or "sealer" or similar material on the work surface, you will defeat most adhesives.  The adhesive has squat to adhere too.  As you have found, will peal right off.  Also, for the most part, trying to remove the Glaze will be like chasing your tail.  You can't get it all and it will interfere with any future attempt to glue.

If it's chrome tanned which a lot of pigskin is it won't burnish. I use veg tan pigskin linings for most of my lined holsters but it's sometimes hard to find. When a customer insists on a suede lined holster (which I advise against since it is chrome tanned leather) I will cut/grind back the lining from the edge so when the front and back of the holster is together it can't be seen on the edges.

As far as not sticking I would imagine it's the glazing, normally weldwood will glue pigskin particularly chrome tanned to the back of leather so good it will literally rip the materials getting them apart.

I think I would put money on it being Chromed tanned...

I like trying new things, like this lining. The problem is, I'm doing it blind, not having any reference. The belt is done, and it looks ok.
